American Medical Association conducts survey of physicians to determine impact of Medicare Payment on Seniors Access to Care

Published On: January 30th, 2013 | Author: Perry Law, P.C. | Category: Estate Planning and Probate Florida Idaho

A survey conducted by the American Medical Association showed that roughly 1 in 5 physicians re restricting the nubmer of Medicare patients in their practice.  The top two reasons given for the restrictions:

1. Medicare payement rates are too low; and

2. the ongoing threat of future payment cuts makes Mediare an unreliable payer.

The unintended consequences of the government’s kick the can approach is going to continue to harm the senior population.  Elder law advocates are attempting to lobby on behalf of the senior community.  The  President of the National Association of Elder Law Attorneys (“NAELA”)was recently quoted as stating, “Uncertainty about Mdicare changes is unsettling.  NAELA is working with Congress to preserve Medicare for current and future older Americans and persons with disabilities.  NAELA members can help their clients receive health care now and in the future.”
